David Scott trail & Double Decker Root Bridge trek
A 6-day journey combining the visit of centres of interest of Cherrapunji and Shillong with three treks: the David Scott Trail, Double Decker Living Root Bridge and the rainbow waterfall.
From Guhawati we drive to Shillong, capital of Meghalaya for a short visit. We will then leave for Cherrapunji blessed with natural treasures; its numerous waterfalls falling from steep cliffs are the best examples of it. It is in this region that we will make the first two treks: the double bridge of living roots in Nongriat and the rainbow waterfall, which owes its name precisely to the rainbow forming at his feet.
On our way back to Shillong, we will stop at Mawphlang for the last trek: the David Scott Trail. It is one of Meghalaya’s most popular trekking routes and was named in honor of David Scott, a British officer who, during the 19th century, discovered this mule track that leads to Bangladesh. This route covers more than 100 km and takes about 5 days to walk.
This trail is also divided into smaller hikes like the one that starts from the village of Mawphlang in Cherrapunji and ends 16 km down at the village of Lad Mawphlang. This route is dotted with beautiful waterfalls, typical Khasi villages, forests and lush meadows.
