Meghalaya, the abode of cloud & waterfalls
Meghalaya, literally translates to ‘the abobe of clouds’. It is one of the seven states of Northeast India known as the ‘seven sisters’. This state, the wettest in India, is slowly opening up to tourism and an increasing number of nature lovers are mesmerised by its unspoiled landscapes. Whether during the monsoon, when the mist hangs over the highlands, or during the dry season, Meghalaya offers the traveller ‘senses filling’ vistas with natural treasures: lush ancient forests, stunning waterfalls cascading down the mountain sides and magnificent, ‘hand-woven’ living root bridges ingeniously built by the tribal communities to cross the rivers.
