Trekking in the land of clouds and waterfalls
An 8-day trip including seven treks, ranging from easy to moderate, will explore the lush nature of Meghalaya and meet the indigenous Khasi and Rabha peoples.
From Guhawati, we will stop in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, for a short visit. We will then embark on the Mawryngkhang trek, also known as the “bamboo trail,” considered one of the most spectacular treks in Meghalaya.
We will continue to the famous Cherrapunji region, with its many waterfalls gushing from sheer cliffs. We will complete three treks: to the Amkar & Ummunoi living root bridges, the famous Nongriat double bridge, and the Rainbow Falls, named after the rainbow that forms at its foot.
On the way back to Shillong, we’ll stop in Mawphlang for the David Scott Trail trek, which begins at the village of Mawphlang in Cherrapunji and ends 16 km further down at the village of Lad Mawphlang.
The last two treks in Meghalaya will take place in Mawlyngbna, where you’ll discover the unique geology of this region. The Split Rock trek will require you to navigate narrow rock passages and climb a huge boulder. The Ka Iew Luri-Luram trek will take you to a volcanic plateau where various fossils and animal-like footprints in a large rock are found. According to legend, they are evidence of an encounter between animals at a time when they could still speak…
We will cross the border back into Assam and undertake a final trek around Lake Chandunbi, a stronghold of the Rabha people.
