Unkwown Temples & Rural Rajasthan
Embark on a 5-day journey off the beaten track for an authentic exploration of the Pali district, where rural life pulses with ancestral traditions and unique centuries-old temples.
This carefully curated tour will take you through a series of picturesque villages, where you’ll have the privilege of discovering different rural communities. Among them, the fascinating Rabaris, nomadic herders known for their distinguished appearance and intact ancestral traditions, offering a rare glimpse into a preserved way of life.
Between each village, our journey will be punctuated by stops at unique temples. You will explore sacred places dedicated to Momaji, where the Bhopas – a kind of Rabari shaman – officiate during ancestral rituals. We will also visit temples dedicated to Shakti, the mother goddess, where the atmosphere is charged with emotion when the priest enters a trance to embody the deity and offer answers to the worshippers’ questions. Finally, you will discover shrines dedicated to Bheruji, a revered local deity, an avatar of Shiva, always depicted in the company of his two faithful dogs, one black and the other white.
This trip will also be a unique opportunity to stay in “Rawlas,” centuries-old fortified houses full of charm. These historic residences, converted into boutique hotels, have been run by the same families since their origins, guaranteeing an authentic immersion and a deep sense of hospitality.
For reasons of exclusivity and respectful tourism, the names of some sites are not mentioned. You’ll discover them by traveling with us!
