Cultural immersion in Mallani region (Barmer)

Cultural immersion in Mallani region (Barmer)

€1500 per person

This 5-day trip takes you to Barmer, a unique destination in Rajasthan, for an immersion in the Mallani culture, meeting its artisans and rural life.

Barmer is a city in the Thar Desert which, unlike much of Rajasthan, is untouched by mass tourism. The city’s authenticity is evident even in its bazaars, where you’ll encounter characters who seem to have stepped straight out of an old Bollywood film. Several important archaeological sites, vibrant local crafts, and delicious cuisine make Barmer a city worth discovering.

During this tour, you will meet several artisans and artists: potters, embroiderers, weavers, woodblock printers, and the famous Manganiar musicians.

For reasons of exclusivity and respectful tourism, the names of the villages are not mentioned. You will discover them as you travel with us!

Best time for this tour: October to March

It is one of the most sacred shrines in Barmer, dedicated to "Shakti," or feminine power.   Lunch, then in the afternoon, you will participate in an Ajrakh (woodblock printing) workshop. Ajrakh is believed to date back to the Indus Valley civilizations, nearly 3,000 BC, but this printing technique flourished under the patronage of the Maharajas in the 12th century AD.
