Mumbai to Goa by the coast of Konkan

This 5-day ‘off the beaten track’ trip takes us to the beautiful wild coast, from Mumbai down to Goa (with a stop in the lush Western Ghats) along the Konkan Coastal Road, where, surprisingly, endless beaches of white sand await you…!

 

The natural sites of Maharashtra are still little visited and yet, they are a wonderful surprise! In addition to the lush Western ghats, this state is blessed with pristine white sand beaches along the coast of Konkan, from the south of Mumbai to the Goa border, some 700 kilometers away.

 

We will begin this tour with a little green stop at Mahabaleshwar, a town perched on the Sahyadri Mount of the Western Ghats.  Then, we drive down towards the coast of Konkan to spend a night in Murud, one of the largest beaches of this coast.  We continue the discovery of the coast with a stop at Ganpatipule which renowned for its ancient temple dedicated to Ganesha followed by a stop at Bhogwe with its pristine beach.

Day 1

Mumbai - Mahabaleshwar

Departure for Mahabaleshwar, 6 hours from Mumbai. Mahabaleshwar is a city perched on one of the five hills of the Sahyadri Mountains in the Western Ghats. It is known for the beauty of its landscapes, especially after the monsoon, where magnificent waterfalls spring out from the peaks. It is also famous for its strawberry production. Arrival for lunch and check in at the hotel. In the afternoon, we will visit the ancient temple of Mahabaleshwar, located in the old city and dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was built under the Chanda Rao dynasty in the 16th century and houses a huge Shivalingam. Overnight in Mahabaleshwar.
Day 2

Mahabaleshwar - Murud

In the morning, we will go and visit the old Pratapgad Fort, strategically placed atop a hill with breathtaking views over the surrounding area. Now in ruins, it was originally built by the Maratha rulers in 1665. Depending on the season, we will see some waterfalls and then we will go down to the coast of Konkan and stop at Murud. The town of Murud and its neighbor, Karde, form together the longest stretch of beach on the coast of Konkan. You can see dolphins at certain times of the year. Overnight in Murud.
Day 3

Murud - Ganpatipule

After breakfast, we will head to Harnai, famous for its important fish market and we will stroll on the beach. We will then leave for Ratnagiri via Ganpatipule famous for its 400-year-old temple dedicated to the elephant-headed god, Ganesha. The idol is a monolith that is said to have been created by the god himself. We will then check in at a resort overlooking one of the beaches around Ganpatipule.
Day 4

Ganpatipule - Bhogwe

We will enjoy the beach of Ganpatipule then we will drive along the coast of Konkan further south and we will stop in Bhogwe to enjoy its idyllic beach, which offers a beautiful view of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea. Sometimes you can see dolphins there. Overnight in Bhogwe.
Day 5

Bhogwe - Goa

After a last swim in the crystalline waters of Bhogwe, we will take the road towards Goa. The last leg of the journey. We drop you off at your hotel. End of the trip. Looking forward to meeting you again. Namaste.
