Nagaland, the land of the Naga warriors
Nagaland, like its other sisters of north-east India, is a different world where modern life and ancestral customs of the first people live side by side. Until its Evangelism by the English in the 19th century, Nagaland was known for its headhunter warriors. This tradition has been totally eradicated, however, there are still old (thankfully now peaceful) warriors in the Mon region, in the far north of Nagaland, who still proudly wear their traditional Naga outfits. In other parts of Nagaland, it is during local festivals that the ancient culture of Nagas is put in the spotlight.
