L'Uttarakhand, treks & sacred pilgrimages
The Uttarakhand, ‘country of the north’ in Sanskrit, is famous for the beauty of its magnificent wooded and mountainous landscapes of the Himalayan range, ideal for trekking enthusiasts. The glaciers of Uttarakhand gave birth to two of the seven sacred rivers of India, the Ganges and the Yamuna, making this state of India a holy land of pilgrimages. The most famous of these is known as ‘Chhota Char Dham’ (the four small abodes) which correspond to the sites of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. Haridwar, at the west of Uttarakhand, is also home to the incredible Kumbh Mela, the largest spiritual gathering in the world.
